For several weeks, us, students from the Province of Québec, heard much encouragements from students and citizens from everywhere in North America, including New York. Across Canada and United States, the red square badge is adopted by more and more activists each day, as a symbol of struggle and solidarity.
We do appreciate when we see how the neoliberal vision of education in Québec is criticised from the outside. But we are even happier when we see you struggling for your own right to study freely. The tuition hikes are a global phenomenon, as the student resistance and strike must be.
If Québécois-es are now struggling to protect their rights to assembly, to protest, to organize, to study and to strike, this is for a particular reason: we did possess these rights before. We do remember the taste of these rights.
The best way to help us in our struggle is to make this battle bigger. Your situation is way worse than ours on many aspects, with or without the new fascist law voted by Charest and his crew of corrupted brutes. You also have freedoms to conquer!
Last year, the arab spring rose after a young man set himself on fire. This small event led to the fall of many dictators.
I am not telling that what's happening now is a revolution. It only smells like one. But a smell is sometimes enough to start a big explosion. Canada and United States are full of pissed and jobless youths getting into debts. And last automn, some activists created the 'Occupy' Movement. It inspired the whole world. It was a good beginning.
You can set your cities and towns ablaze and you know it. You only need a diversity of ideas. Use your imagination. Help us by helping yourselves and we will win, all together.
